St. Maryswell Bay, Lavernock

St. Maryswell Bay, Lavernock - A lovely summer day in the 1920's or 30's captured for posterity in this photographic record. The postcard was published by W. H. S. & S. Ltd., LDN. which I would say translates to W. H. Smith & Son Limited of London. Henry Walton Smith opened a small news vendors in Little Grosvenor Street, London in 1792 according to the company website. A postcard held in the ever expanding Penarth Dock Collection.  [001]

St. Mary's Well Bay, Looking N.E.
St. Mary's Well Bay, Looking N.E.

St. Mary's Well Bay, Looking N.E. - An un-dated and un-posted Valentine's Series postcard from the Penarth Dock Collection. I always thought that the 'Seven Sisters' were cliffs at Lavernock but apparently they were large trees which became 'Three Sisters' during the storm of September 1903. The lower image has been colourised. [001]

On the Beach, St. Mary's Well Bay
On the Beach, St. Mary's Well Bay
On the Beach, St. Mary's Well Bay - Then as now, there's no time to pose for the camera when playing on the beach, whatever your age! The shutter speed and time lapse required of the camera of the day to capture this social event provides a record of the urgency of children at play - wonderful! A Valentine's Series postcard from the Penarth Dock Collection. [001]

St. Mary's Well Bay Nr. Penarth - 'A sheltered bay and caravan park located on road B4267 between Penarth and Barry.' A postcard published in the 1950's or 1960's by Ernest Joyce & Co., Ltd. of Newport from the Penarth Dock Collection. [001]
