Penarth Gardens - An August 1904 postal date for this card to one Miss Anne Davies of Prospect Place, Pontadawe from Elmer! The message is intriguing : 'Katie, my sister and Kitty my - - - cousin and I will be over tomorrow weather permitting. We are all here in Cardiff today, also Edwin and his doll.' [001]

Alexandra Park, Penarth - One of the 'Ten Photographic Views' from a 'Souvenir of Penarth' a Valentine Series but available from G. F. Meredith, Bon Marche, Penarth. This view was taken after the upper image since the bijou pavilion is now built at the seaward end of the pier. The bandstand and rear of the elegant Esplanade Hotel feature as does the tower of the swimming baths. This was indeed an idyllic position to set up a tripod and I could envisage that weary visitors would had to fight off the photographers for a place on the park benches at times! [001]

Pier from the Alexandra Park, Penarth - Another fine postcard view from Alexandra Gardens held in the Penarth Dock Collection. Note the shipping activity in the Seven Sea, the bandstand and the rear of the Esplanade Hotel. The Somerset coast maybe seen on the horizon and I feel sure that the gentry taking the air at Weston-super-Mare would be looking across at Penarth.

The post stamp is June 1906 addressed to a Master A. Griffiths of Hanwell, London from Bellevue Terrace, Penarth and the writer comments: 'It is very hot here now' and asks 'Do you go to school?' Another piece of interesting social history from the Penarth Dock Collection. [001]

'Y Ddraig Coch Ddyry Cychwyn' - 'Arms of Wales' - Simply translated 'The red dragon leads the way' to proclaim 'A happy Christmas' from Alexandra Park, Penarth in this Raphael Tuck's 'Oilette' postcard from the Penarth Dock Collection. Post stamped 22nd December 1905 it sends Christmas greetings from Penarth to a lady in Essex. [001]
