Entrance to Barry Dock.

Entrance to Barry Dock - A great moonlit view over the harbour and pontoon pier with the Bristol Channel beyond. The trains awaiting the arrival of the weary passengers from a Barry Railway Company paddle steamer. Another fine postcard from 'The Unique Series' held in the Penarth Dock Collection plus a colourised version. [001]

Barry Pier
Barry Pier

Barry Pier - A postcard complete with two of the Red Funnel Fleet paddle steamers of the Barry Railway Company. Distant in the haze is the mysterious island of Steep Holm. The lower version has been colourised. [001]

Barry Harbour and Pier

Barry Harbour and Pier - A lovely image with a calm sea and a great day for a trip to Weston on the awaiting steamer of the Barry Railway Company in c.1906. Another piece of interesting social history from the Penarth Dock Collection. [001]

The Dock Entrance, Barry Dock
The Dock Entrance, Barry Dock. - Another lovely photograph of the harbour at Barry with its distinctive lighthouse and the traveling crane on the breakwater probably taken during the 1950's. I used to ride my bicycle to the lighthouse and talk to the fishermen when I was a young lad. Another fine postcard from the Penarth Dock Collection. [001]

Entrance & Landing Stage - Barry Dock
Entrance & Landing Stage - Barry Dock

Entrance & Landing Stage - Barry Dock - The paddle steamer is supposed to be the 'Waverley' of the White Funnel Fleet of P & A Campbell. However, I recognise her as the 'Ravenswood' following her upgrade by Campbell's. She was built in 1891 and served until 1955. Another from the Penarth Dock Collection plus a colourised version. [001]

Barry Harbour.
Barry Harbour with the floating landing stage at the harbour wall designed for the convenience of passenger traffic at all states of the tide. A colourised view of a tranquil day. [000] [002]
