Entrance to Bute Docks - Cardiff

Entrance to Bute Docks - Cardiff - The Dock Offices of the Bute Dock Company feature in all of these hand-coloured postcard images. This one is postmarked August 1906 and addressed to Belgium. Probably a message home from a Belgium mariner who arrived at Cardiff. Another postcard view from the Penarth Dock Collection. [001]

Bute Dock Entrance - Cardiff

Bute Dock Entrance - Cardiff - Another view of the red brick and terracotta faced structure designed by William Frame. The building was opened in 1897 as the headquarters for the Bute Dock Company after the previous building on the site was destroyed by fire in 1892. This postcard has a Cardiff postmark dating from May 1904. [001]

Entrance to Bute Docks, Cardiff

Entrance to Bute Docks, Cardiff - A postcard view of the entrance lock and Bute Dock Company offices from the landing stage near the old lighthouse. The glow in the sky suggests it is evening and shortly the navigation lights will shine out and the fixed white light of the nearby lighthouse will mark the entrance channel. This card bears the postmark of Avonmouth and a date stamp in October 1909 and was written by someone in a 'desperate hurry'! Pieces of our social history mostly lost forever but held in the Penarth Dock Collection. [001]
