Penarth Dock, South Wales - the heritage & legacy . . .
Volume Eight - Pre-Victorian to the present day - more aspects - Cardiff, Penarth and Environs - [vintage photo and postcard album] . . .
'The Last Boat Penarth' - Another Cynicus comic masterpiece - a ridiculous clamber for the last paddle steamer as she departs the pier completely oblivious of her passengers. A cherished postcard from the Penarth Dock Collection. [001] [20170713]
'The Last Train Penarth' - Cynicus at his best again! These two postcards were purchased from different sources but are in the same hand both stating : 'to My Dear Murial - With Love from Mother' and are addressed to Miss M. S. B. Saunders at 25 Plymouth Road, Penarth. Strangely neither is dated or has a stamp attached. The card first appeared in many guises, with just the name of town or city varying, in 1908. 'The design on this card is the copyright of The Cynicus Publishing Co., Ltd, of Tayport, Fife.' as stated upon the reverse of both postcards. The work of artist Martin Anderson (1854-1932), his company went into liquidation in 1911 and he then set up publishing once again but in Leeds as the Cynicus Art Publishing Company. [001] [20170713]
