'No.4. Public Library, Penarth.' - The public library in Stanwell Road, Penarth was commenced in 1904, the foundation stone being laid in September by Samuel Thomas. Samuel, once dubbed 'Penarth's Lloyd George' was central in securing a £4,000 'bequest' from the Carnegie Trust to fund building the library on a plot of land donated to the town by Lord Windsor. The library opened its doors to those who could read (and those who still can't!) the following year. Another wonderful postcard published by G. Wehrley & Co., 97 Glebe Street, Penarth, S. Wales held in the Penarth Dock Collection. [001] [395]
