Vessels ashore at Lavernock Point, near Cardiff, after the gale of January 1881

'The Great Snowstorm and Gale - Wrecks on the Coast - Vessels ashore at Lavernock Point, near Cardiff, after the gale of January 1881.' The scene at Lavernock after the storm - an engraving published within the Graphic weekly magazine in early 1881. [000] [243]

You may recall that the Cardiff Times newspaper account stated: 'Between the vessel and the end of our journey (Lavernock Point) were encountered the barque 'Myrella', of London, from Sharpness for Cardiff, the unlucky vessel which had collided with the 'Alexandre' ; 'Etta', of Liverpool (Capt. Williams), a full-rigged vessel ; the French barque 'Admiral Cecile', which was in a very dilapidated condition owing to a collision, and which will be of little further use ; the ' 'G. C. Michels', and other smaller vessels.'  [019] [361]
