TVR No 337 GWR 920 at Penarth Dock engine shed 1927
TVR No 337 GWR 920 at Penarth Dock engine shed 1927

TVR number 337, an 0-6-0 locomotive built by Kitson & Company at Hunslet, Leeds in 1884 and stationed at Radyr at the time of the re-grouping of the railway companies in 1922. Under her new masters, the GWR, she was renumbered 920, as seen here, and based sometime afterwards at the Penarth Dock engine shed. This photograph is dated 1st May 1927. In the distance are the number 13 and 12 coal tips of the Penarth Dock and the canopy of the engine shed shelters the rear of the tender. Another fine piece of history from the Penarth Dock Collection. [001]

map of Penarth Dock - engine shed and water tank

Part of the GWR tenancy map of the Penarth Dock showing the location of the engine shed in relation to the Penarth Branch line and the Penarth Dock and Cogan stations. The blue line indicates the origin and general direction of the upper image. The water tank above the engine shed served the engine shed and in later years often became a somewhat dangerous amenity for local children to bathe in! [301]
