British Railways locomotive number 5125

Bearing the British Railways emblem, the former GWR locomotive number 5125, is seen en route from Cardiff to Barry via Cogan, Dinas Powis, Cadoxton and Barry Dock. Another of Peter Brabham's [432] fine photographs from Flickr [381] taken by John Wiltshire in March 1954. Well done to both John and Peter for capturing this piece of local steam heritage for us all to enjoy!

GWR Penarth Dock, Harbour Property Plan of OCtober 1928
A section of the GWR Penarth Dock, Harbour Property Plan of October 1928 (corrected August 1933) kindly supplied by the staff of the the Wiltshire & Swindon Archives. The plan indicates Cogan Junction and the extent of the Llandough Sidings originally intended to hold and collate wagons awaiting shipment from Penarth Dock. The capacity of the sidings was significantly increased by 1901 through the addition of ten or more lines and eventually there were 28 miles of sidings available to the dock. [252]
