Penarth Dock Station - August 1964

Penarth Dock Station - August 1964 - A pannier tank engine hauls a train of 12 ton steel mineral wagons plus the guards van. The main entrance to the docks is below the traditional steel box section bridge where the platform is spanned with wooden planks. Another heritage photograph from the Penarth Dock Collection. Penarth Dock Station c.1905.

Penarth Dock Station - 1905. A steamy scene as the Cardiff bound TVR loco awaits its guard to blow his whistle and wave his green flag; the signal for departure in the days before the electric buzzer on trains!

The TVR locomotive is repported to be an O2 class, 0-6-2T, Number 83 built in 1899 at the Neilson Reid works. She is seen at the Penarth Dock and Harbour Station in 1905. The dock and the western pump house is behind complete with chimney. I wonder if the portal frame forms part of the construction of the new engineering works built in support of the pontoon by the Penarth Dock Pontoon and Slipway Company Limited? This image seems to be a reduction of a postcard from the Spencer Powell Collection of the National Museum of Wales. [061] [025] [028]
