A small section of the GWR Penarth Dock and Harbour Tenancies Plan dating from the 1920's which clearly illustrates the Penarth Dock engine-shed, its station, the Penarth Extension line to town plus is shows the complexity of the sidings to and from the dockside coal tips. The water tank situated at the top of the escarpment was a reservoir for the engine shed and station. It was apparently of steel or iron riveted construction being rectangular in shape, deep with vertical sides. There are accounts of local children using it as a swimming pool on those long hot Summer days of long ago!
