Taff Vale 0-6-2 Tank
Taff Vale Railway 0-6-0T Locomotive No. 28 - This type of engine was much used in South Wales alike for hauling the dense coal traffic and for passenger trains.

The Taff Vale Railway 0-6-2T Tank Locomotive Number 28 was designed by Mr. C. T. Hurry Riches the Company Locomotive, Carriage and Wagon Engineer. Built in 1897, at the West Yard Works, Cardiff (works number 306), it was an '01' class which was absorbed in the GWR at grouping of 1922 and was withdrawn from service in 1927.

The above images are of a fine pewter ingot struck for the National Railway Museum Inaugural Edition stating : 'Taff Vale Railway 0-6-2T Locomotive No. 28 - This type of engine was much used in South Wales alike for hauling the dense coal traffic and for passenger trains.' This ingot is held with pride within the Penarth Dock Collection. [001]

Afterwards renamed 'Gordon' the engine gave service to the National Coal Board at the South Hetton Colliery in the Durham Area. Her subsequent restoration is the subject of a fine book published in 1990 ; 'The Last Survivor' by Stuart Owen-Jone of the Welsh Industrial and Maritime Museum which takes up its story. [001] [569]
