upper photo : 1928 : Penarth Train, G.W.R. (Taff Vale section). Rebuilt 0-6-2T No. 386 on 1 in 40 gradient. Photo credit attributed to H. T. Hobbs. A fine view of the passenger train at Dingle Road Halt just up the steep gradient from Penarth Dock station. The photo is borrowed from The Railway Magazine and was featured in an article entitled British Locomotive Practice and Performance and was published in the August 1928 edition. The engine was stationed at Penarth Dock Engine Shed at the regrouping of 1922 and survived in service until 1956. As TVR No. 400 she was built by Leslie in 1920. [735] [20200412]

lower images : Taff Vale Engine No.3 Class - Type 0-6T-2 - A TVR schematic which appears to have been issued by the GWR at Swindon given that the TVR and GWR engine numbers are indicated on the reverse. Another heritage artifact held within the Penarth Dock Collection. [001]

Note on the station at Dingle Road:

The station was originally opened by the TVR in March 1904 and was named Dingle Road Platform. This name was amended in October 1922 by the GWR at the regrouping of the railways to Dingle Road Halt. British Rail came along and renamed it in 1969 to Dingle Road and then the station was rebuilt in 1978. So it is no wonder that the locals are so confused!
