c.1910 - The trow 'Caroline' - awaiting near the entrance to the Bute West Dock at Cardiff together with a steam tug, probably the Falmouth tug 'Sylph.' The steamer 'Portia' is departing the sea locks. The trow 'Caroline' is ketch rigged having been built at Framilode on the banks of the River Severn in Gloucestershire in 1830 for S. Rowles of Framton on Severn. She was owned at the time of the photograph by W. R. Wallbridge of Cardiff and involved with the coal trade sailing to the river wharves, docks and pills of the lower Severn and Estuary. She was a mere 53 tons net register but, no doubt, served local communities well for many years. The credit for the photograph is the Welsh Industrial & Maritime Museum and it was featured within an article written by Colin Green, entitled 'The Severn Trow' and published within Issue 12 of 'Archive' magazine in 1996.
