Julie Carder's sketch of the Missions to Seamen building at Penarth Dock also featuring the four-masted barque 'Passat' in c.1950. The 'Passat' together with 'Pamir' had just completed a historic voyage; having taken part in the last commercial grain race from Australia to Great Britain via the Horn. A section of the GWR Penarth Dock and Harbour Property Plan corrected to 1933 held at the Wiltshire and Swindon Archives which shows the location of the Seamen's Mission situated adjacent to the swing-bridge spanning the lock connecting the basin with the main dock. [301]

Lease number 60 covers the Seamen's Mission with the GWR but further detail is missing from the plan. The seamen were, it seems, treated to wireless (radio) probably the BBC and possibly short-wave communication with their respective ships. The lease is extended and the plan updated post 1933 to cover the installation of an aerial as this snippet of the plan indicates. [301]
