Volume Nine - Pre-Victorian to the present day - even more aspects - The Missions to Seamen at Penarth . . .

But remember Him who was rich, but for poor sinners' sake was made poor, that poor, perishing sailors as well as others, might be made rich. 'Fear not,' He says, 'for I am with thee, be not discouraged, I am thy God ; and be not weary in well doing, for in due season ye shall reap if ye faint not.' I believe, dear sir, that you will never know nor see all the fruit of your labours here, but eternity itself will only unfold the blessings resulting from your labours in the Bristol Channel.

Sailors are like birds of passage that migrate to the ends of the earth, and numbers of souls that have heard the glorious Gospel of the blessed God so faithfully and affectionately preached from your lips, although perhaps now in a foreign land, will have to bless God through all eternity for what they heard on board the little Eirene.

It is needless for me to add another word.

"I remain, dear sir, "Very truly yours,

" JOHN ASHLEY "
