Penarth Dock, South Wales - 150 years - the heritage and legacy
Penarth Dock, South Wales - the heritage & legacy . . .

Volume Nine - Pre-Victorian to the present day - even more aspects - More Moments Captured in Time . . .

Swanbridge beach, Sully
◊ Swanbridge - A vintage postcard view with Flat Holm middle distant and across to Weston-super-Mare on the Somerset coast. The steps, bottom left, lead to the causeway across to Sully Island. The view belies the treacherous nature of the local tidal conditions and the numerous lives lost over the years simply by people misjudging their timing for the crossing. We are only about 2.5 miles from Penarth. Another fine postcard view from the mid-1960's of Moments Captured in Time from the Penarth Dock Collection. [001] [20180825]

St. Mary's Well Bay, Penarth
◊ St. Mary's Well Bay - About ½ mile from Swanbridge just around the headland is a secluded beach where as a lad I used to imbibe cider and stay out late with girls! I think that the cliffs were known as locally as the Seven Sisters and were somewhat unstable as I recall. I think the cliffs probably closely reflected the character and temperament of a girlfriend at the time! This postcard has a postdate during August 1955. Another fine postcard view of Moments Captured in Time from the Penarth Dock Collection. [001] [20180825]

Swanbridge.

◊ Swanbridge, Penarth - A beautiful hand-coloured antique postcard view looking back along the lane toward Swanbridge. A photograph by Martin J. Ridley dating from between 1900 and 1910. Another fine postcard view of Moments Captured in Time from the Penarth Dock Collection. [001] [20180825]
