c.1906 - No. 1 Dock and Entrance, Barry Docks - Xmas Greetings.
◊ No. 1 Dock and Entrance, Barry Docks - Xmas Greetings - A gorgeous heritage view of a vessel passing through number one dock en-route via the basin to the Bristol Channel and open sea. The bridge over the lock ahead is a drawbridge worked by hydraulic power. The postcard is postdated in early December 1906 and sent to a Mrs. Brooks at Wolverly, Near Kidderminster. The writer states : 'Just a line to say that we are still alive. You will see that we live at a seaport now. (Guthrie Street, Barry Dock) We are 200 miles away from home, we like this place very much. They say it is beautiful here in Summer.' Another of the fine postcard and photographic views of Moments Captured in Time from the Penarth Dock Collection. [001] [20180826]

◊ Barry Docks - An undated postcard view of another vessel leaving by the same route as that above. The tug awaits the drawbridge to retract and beyond are the twin funneled paddle steamers of the Barry Railway Company 'Gwalia' and 'Devonia'. They were built in 1905 and 'Devonia' became part of P & A Campbell's, White Funnel Fleet in 1911. The vessels are still in the livery of the Barry Railway Company but appear to be laid up. Another fine postcard view and a Moment Captured in Time from the Penarth Dock Collection. [001] [20180826]
