The Islands from Penarth.
◊ The Islands from Penarth - A view from the beach of the islands of Flat Holm and Steep Holm with the Somerset coast beyond. A Valentine's Series postcard post-dated August 1942. Another of the fine postcard and photographic views of Moments Captured in Time from the Penarth Dock Collection. [001] [20180908]

Flat & Steep Holmes from Windsor Gardens, Penarth.

◊ Flat & Steep Holmes from Windsor Gardens, Penarth - Another fine sepia tint Valentine's Series postcard, unposted, but dating from around the turn of the 20th century. A fine postcard view and a Moment Captured in Time from the Penarth Dock Collection. [001] [20180908]

The Fog Horn, Flat Holm.

◊ The Fog Horn, Flat Holm - The distinctive sound that still echoes in my head ; the fog horn warning that carried so far on those distant, still, misty nights whilst I was warm and safe tucked up in my bed in Murch Road, Dinas Powis as a child. It's sonorous tuba sound ended abruptly with a pedal note which sounded every 30 seconds for about 3 seconds. How many nights I fell asleep listening to its warning to mariners of the approaching rocky coast of the island, The Wolves, One Fathom Bank and the Mackenzie Shoal. An impressive view and a Moment Captured in Time. [000] [002] [20180908]
