◊ Steamships Westonia and Gwalia, Cardiff - A busy scene at the pier head, Cardiff showing these paddle steamers in the livery of the Barry Railway Company which assists greatly in dating the photograph. These were two of four vessels operated by the company during the period 1905 - 1909. 'Gwalia' was later sold to P & A Campbell in 1922 where upon she was renamed 'Lady Moyra'. 'Westonia' passed out of the Barry Railway Company's ownership to the Bristol Channel Passenger Boats Ltd., Cardiff for the two seasons following. She was sold to P. & A. Campbell in 1911 following protracted disputes, she was rebuilt with only one funnel and upgraded by Campbell's and renamed 'Tintern'. She only remained in service with them until 1913 being sold to Portuguese owners and she met her fate at the breaker's yard c.1924. Another of the fine postcard and photographic records of Moments Captured in Time from the Penarth Dock Collection. [001] [20180919]
