Penarth Dock, South Wales - 150 years - the heritage and legacy
Penarth Dock, South Wales - the heritage & legacy . . .

Volume Nine - Pre-Victorian to the present day - even more aspects - More Moments Captured in Time . . .

A Bird's Eye View of Barry Dock.
A Bird's Eye View of Barry Dock.

◊ A Bird's Eye View of Barry Dock - An undated Aerofilms Limited photograph of the No.1 dock with No. 2 dock beyond. Note the extensive railway sidings. In the enlargement are the distinctive Dock Offices with its fine clock tower and the statue of David Davies just visible behind the hydraulic accumulator. Between Nos. 1 and 2 coal tips are the works of Hodges Ship Repairers which in my day became Hodges Engineering and the Fownes Forge under the ownership of Penarth Dock Engineering Company Limited. Three years (1966 - 69) of my life were spent in these works learning engineering skills which were to be of use throughout my life. Aerofilms address is stamped on the reverse of the photograph and they can be contacted at The London Aerodrome, Hendon! A fine photographic reminder of our lost heritage and a Moment Captured in Time from the Penarth Dock Collection. [001] [20180924]

◊ Barry Dock - A view across No.1 dock with the dock offices distant. I am unable to make out the name of the vessel churning the waters of the dock but her home port is London. Note the on-lookers and the horses and carts paused, awaiting the draw bridge to be opened for their crossing. Another fine postcard reminder and a Moment Captured in Time from the Penarth Dock Collection. [001] [20180924]
