Penarth Dock, South Wales - the heritage & legacy . . .

Volume Nine - Pre-Victorian to the present day - even more aspects - More Moments Captured in Time . . .

Penarth.

◊ Penarth - A classic postcard view from the pier on a sunny day. The Esplanade Hotel looks to be an inviting venue for luncheon ; I wonder what is on the al la carte menu today? The postcard is addressed to Miss L. Burwood of Norwich and bears a postdate during June 1903. A Moment Captured in Time held within the Penarth Dock Collection. [001] [20181008]

Penarth from Pleasure Steamers.
Penarth from Pleasure Steamers.

◊ Penarth from Pleasure Steamers - A view looking astern from a departing paddle steamer of the Bijou Pavilion at the end of the Penarth Pier in this postcard view postdated July 1904. In the background are the sheer cliffs of the Penarth Head with the tower of St. Augustine's church visible on the skyline. Another fine Moment Captured in Time from the Penarth Dock Collection. Penarth Pier.
Penarth Pier.
◊ Penarth Pier - A hand-coloured postcard view from the pier with its fine cast iron balustrades and gas lighting. The Esplanade Hotel and Sea-water Baths dominate this end of the promenade and looking beyond and into Alexandra Park, its ornate bandstand awaits a performance of um-chucks! (Brassband speak for the afterbeats played typically by the 2nd and 3rd cornet players.) The postcard is unposted so I can only estimate the date to be from the same era as those above.
