Penarth Dock, South Wales - 150 years - the heritage and legacy
Penarth Dock, South Wales - the heritage & legacy . . .

Volume Nine - Pre-Victorian to the present day - even more aspects - More Moments Captured in Time . . .

Castle Street & Castle, Cardiff.

◊ Castle Street & Castle, Cardiff - A postdate during July 1907 sets the period nicely. The postcard is addressed to Mrs. H. Cockram of Congresbury, near Bristol. The tram would appear to be one of the 94 new open top electric vehicles delivered to the Cardiff Tramways Company during 1902 having been built by the Preston based Electric Railway & Tramway Carriage Works Limited. A Moment Captured in Time from the Penarth Dock Collection. [001] [20181011]

Cardiff Castle.

◊ Cardiff Castle - A Valentine's Series postcard view of the residence of the Bute family. This was later to become the Welsh College of Music and Drama where I studied music and the place where I learnt to blow my own trumpet! Another fine Moment Captured in Time held within the Penarth Dock Collection. [001] [20181011]

The Castle, Cardiff.

◊ The Castle, Cardiff - A postcard view taken from Castle Street toward the clock tower and main gate. The photograph came from the studio of Mr. Alfred Freke who operated out of 12 Duke Street, Cardiff. The name dates this fine hand-coloured photograph between the years 1891 to 1901. Note the horse-drawn, open-topped omnibus and the famous carved stone creatures resting on the 'Animal Wall' designed for the 3rd Marquess of Bute by the architect William Burges. A lovely Moment Captured in Time by Mr Freke and a postcard held within the Penarth Dock Collection. [001] [20181011]
