Penarth Dock, South Wales - 150 years - the heritage and legacy
Penarth Dock, South Wales - the heritage & legacy . . .

Volume Nine - Pre-Victorian to the present day - even more aspects - More Moments Captured in Time . . .

Penarth Beach.

◊ 'Penarth Beach' - An Edwardian view from the pier of the beach to the south side. I don't see too many bikinis just suited gentlemen and respectfully attired ladies. There is not even as glimpse of naked ankle to be seen! The building on the esplanade is Rock Villa and Balcony Villa built in the 1860's and replaced with a concrete monstrosity they had the gaul to call Windsor Court in the 1960's. As I recall, the builder's couldn't even get the mix of concrete right and within a short period of time the seaward facade of the building had to covered with tiles in order to hide the crumbling fascia from view. A Moment Captured in Time from the Western Mail Photochrom Series of postcard views held within the Penarth Dock Collection. [001] [20181022]

Penarth - Beach and Esplanade.

◊ 'Penarth - Beach and Esplanade' - An 'Autochrome' (Colour Photo) Postcard from the Pictorial Stationery Co., Ltd., of London. It is postdated August 1904 to an address near Oswestry. I wonder what became of the small boy posing for and not doubt fascinated by, the cameraman. A Moment Captured in Time from the Penarth Dock Collection. [001] [20181022]

The Sea Front, Penarth.

◊ 'The Sea Front, Penarth' - A postcard view of the pebble beach with the Beach Cliff building of 1904 designed by local architect Frederick Speed. At the right-hand end of the building was the Beach Cliff Hotel with Govier's Restaurant and the 'Cabin', apparently a typical seaside shop, beyond. Another Edwardian Moment Captured in Time from the Penarth Dock Collection. [001] [20181022]
