Volume Nine - Pre-Victorian to the present day - even more aspects - The Board of Trade, Mercantile Marine Offices at Penarth Dock . . .

This chapter concerns the Board of Trade, Mercantile Marine Offices, one of three important buildings in the Penarth Dock story situated adjacent to the entrance to the dock from the Severn Sea.

1. H.M. Customs House which included the Penarth Dock, Harbour & Railway Company Dock Office. (A1+2)
2. The Mercantile Marine Offices, including the Marine Hotel. (B1-5)
3. The Marine Hotel (public house). (C1)

The Taff Vale Railway Company schematic layout [247] by Mr Ballinger of the various offices and functional maritime facilities at Penarth Dock circa 1895-6. All that remains (as at August 2017) is the former Customs House (A1+2) and the derelict Mercantile Marine office building (B1-5). The Marine Hotel public house (C1) closed prior to the slump in the coal trade of the 1920's and was demolished.
