1960's - A photograph of the Mercantile Marine Offices with the Customs House beyond.

• 1960's - A photograph of the Mercantile Marine Offices with the Customs House beyond in the mid to late 1960's from the Penarth Library. [605] At the date of this photo, the former Mercantile Marine Offices was in use as residential flats. The change of use probably having taken place in the 1920's when the GWR became the owners of the property. There are records of heating points and new electricity meters being installed at the flats in the years immediately following WWII.

To assist us in establishing the age of this photograph, I can see that the Ford Zephyr car nearest has a 'D' registration dating it to 1966-67 whereas, the Mk II Ford Cortina next to it was first introduced in 1966. I can just make out that it has an 'E' plate making it of 1967-68 vintage.
