Penarth Dock, South Wales - 150 years - the heritage and legacy
Penarth Dock, South Wales - the heritage & legacy . . .

Volume Nine - Pre-Victorian to the present day - even more aspects - The Board of Trade, Mercantile Marine Offices at Penarth Dock . . .

1987 - The completed Penarth Marina.

• 1987 - The completed Penarth Marina. The remains of the Penarth Slipway in the River Ely can still be seen. Distant are the Customs House and Mercantile Marine Offices buildings sheltering in the lee of the Penarth Headland. Thanks to Penarth Framing services for this fine photograph. [113]

Late 1990's - A concrete barrier now blocks direct access to the Severn Sea from the former Penarth Dock.

• Late 1990's - A concrete barrier now blocks direct access to the Severn Sea from the former Penarth Dock sealock and creates the man-made freshwater lagoon to hide the twice daily tidal action. The rich ecology of the mudflats which has been in existence since sea levels rose after the last ice age is lost. The Customs House and Mercantile Marine Offices are clear but the right hand roof section of the building has now been removed. The other roof extension at the seaward end collapsed due to dereliction and neglect during May 2017. Again thanks to Vilis at Penarth Framing Services for use of this fine photograph. [113]
