The Friends of Cathay's Cemetery [604] website provides a great deal of information about Cardiff folk in general as well as local mariners. The following entries apply to our three pilots suspended and subsequently reinstated by the Cardiff Pilotage Board in 1878 : -

David Samuel : 1862 - 1881
John Howe : 1862 - 1891 (but could also be John Andrew Howe : 1870 - 1881)
John Williams : 1874 - 1898

1882 - Pilotage Rates of the Port of Cardiff from William Turner's guidebook 'The Port of Cardiff'.

1864 - A view from the Pierhead Cardiff of the dredged channel through the mud and the Cefn y Wrâch shoal by the Bute Trustees in 1859.
