1890 - A Cardiff Sailing Pilot.

1890 - The Cardiff Sailing Pilots were still hard at work, although by this date steam had begun to be introduced. Here a Cardiff Pilot (with sail letters 'C' for the port of Cardiff which included Penarth Dock and 'B' for Barry) is sailing the channel from the Bute Docks to the sea as she passes the low water pier. The houses on the skyline are those of Ferry Road in the Grange area. Another photograph held within the Cardiff County Library's Media Collection. [626] [Archive reference - 002104B] [20180110]

c.1900 - Another Cardiff Pilot vessel.
c.1900 - Another Cardiff Pilot vessel. The open deck, basic layout and lack of shelter in those dark, dismal, cold, wet and stormy days ;  these were men from another breed - they laughed at hypothermia! [000] [002]
