She was surveyed upon the Patent Slipway of the Penarth Ship Building and Shiprepairing Company Limited by Mr. Henry T. Tyrrell and Mr. A. E. Keydell. The reason was due to damage.

The vessel was a iron hulled sailing ship, of 1,072 Gross Register Tonnage registered to the Port of London. She was built at the shipyard of Messrs. William Pile & Company of Sunderland and launched during 1878. Her vital statistics were 207.7 ft. in length, 34.1 ft. in breath and she had a depth of 20.8 ft.
