Abandonment of a Penarth Bound Ship - A Lloyd's telegram says :— 'The British ship Vancouver, from St. John, New Brunswick, for Penarth, with wood, was abandoned water-logged on the 22nd of December, and the crew were landed at Amsterdam by the Dutch steamer Chester, from New York.' - Evening Express [135] [361] 2nd January 1893. 
              The fully rigged, wooden hulled, sailing ship 'Vancouver' sailed from St. John, New Brunswick for the Bristol Channel on the 2nd December 1892 loaded with a cargo of deals. She became waterlogged during a gale on the 22nd December, in lat. 47 N., long. 35 W., and was abandoned. The crew were rescued by the tank steamer 'Chester' and landed at Amsterdam. The 'Vancouver' was of 1,376 tons register having been launched in 1876, and was owned by George H. Lovitt. [214]
