Volume Eleven - Pre-Victorian to the Present Day - some more aspects - The Shipbreakers of Penarth . . .

1949 - The coastal cargo-ship 'Isabel' was broken up near Penarth Dock.

1949 - The bulk freighter 'Lake Chelan' was scrapped at Penarth in April 1949 by Marine Metals Limited.

1923 - An unidentified vessel on the muds of the River Ely estuary which appears to be subject to the ship breakers of Penarth.

See also the chapter 'The Demise of H.M.S. Exmouth at Penarth Dock - 1905' for the names of some of the 'wooden walls' or the redundant wooden sailing vessels of the Royal Navy which were broken up on the banks of the River Ely, at the Ely Tidal Harbour, or as sometimes reported, within Penarth Dock, although I doubt the later is an accurate description but more a generalised location.

A number of vessels broken up at Penarth are also listed within the chapter entitled : The Lloyd's Register at Penarth Dock. - [incl. surveys and losses of shipping etc.]
