June 1949 - 0-6-2T passenger train photographed just west (Dinas Powis side) of the western portal of Cogan tunnel. The photograph was featured within an article named 'Four Miles from Cardiff General' published within British Railways Illustrated Magazine in which Bryan Wilson states: 'Heading south on the former Barry Railway, the 'four mile' point is just south of Cogan tunnel. The mile post might say 3¼ but that's from Penarth Curve South. . . . Ex-Taff Vale 'A' Class 0-6-2T 389 is heading for Barry Island with the 10.50 a.m. from Merthyr. This loco remained at Barry until February 1955 when it was pushed out by incoming BR Standard 82XXX 2-6-2Ts.' - Photograph J. C. Flemmons. The Transport Treasury. [1039] [1040]
