Volume Eleven - Pre-Victorian to the Present Day - some more aspects - Patent Applications by George Taylor, of Penarth, 1883 . . . At a suitable point in the rails D. is a switch-section or hinged flap like the one D1. before described except that it is so weighted so as to normally stand open; it is turned down by the wheels into line with the rails when the receiver is wheeled out to the discharging point but remains open when it is returned to allow the wheels of the receiver to be lowered through the rails. E. are guide sheaves over which the hoisting chains, that remain attached to the receiver, are passed to enable the receiver to be lowered again to the frame A. A series of' these receivers would be used and the ordinary hoisting platform of the staith would be dispensed with. Having described the nature of the said Invention and the manner of performing the same I declare that what I claim as the Invention to be protected by the hereinbefore in part recited Letters Patent is : The employment, in combination with a staith, of receivers and of oppositely inclined ways at the receiving and discharging levels for running said receivers upon, and of apparatus for transferring the receivers from the one level to the other, substantially as shown and described for transferring coal from railway waggons to vessels. In witness whereof I the said George Taylor have hereunto set my hand and seal this Fifteenth day of March A.D. 1884. G. TAYLOR, (L.S.)
