Volume Twelve - Pre-Victorian to the Present Day - further aspects - Defence of the Realm - Penarth Head Fort and Coastal Battery . . . Mr. Baldwin replied - I understand that the hon. Baronet refers to the award which has been made by the War Compensation Court in the exercise of their functions under the Indemnity Act, 1920. I do not propose to suggest to the Tribunal that a re-hearing of the case should take place, but I may remind the hon. Baronet that provision is made in the Indemnity Act for an appeal to the Court of Appeal upon any point of law. - Hansard [088] 07 December 1922.
1929 - Penarth Head Fort Mr. Freeman - asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that the piece of land acquired on Penarth Head for the purposes of a fort during the War is a disadvantage to the town by preventing a public right-of-way round this headland; and whether he will consider the possibility of handing back this land, so that it can be used to greater public advantage? Mr. Shaw replied - I have called for a report on this matter, and I will communicate with my hon. Friend in due course. - Hansard [088] 06 November 1929.
1929 - Penarth Head (Right of Way) Mr. Freeman - asked the Secretary of State for War whether he has now received the Report concerning the right of way round Penarth Head; and when this privilege can be restored to the town? Mr. Shinwell replied - I have now received a report from which it appears that my hon. Friend has been misinformed. I understand that the Department did not acquire any land on Penarth Head during the War, and that there is not, and never has been, any public right of way round the Battery. |
