1969 - Dinas Powis Station - The station building adjacent to Cardiff Road.

1969 - Dinas Powis Station - The station building adjacent to Cardiff Road. The furthest two doors were the entrance to the booking office for staff, the next door towards us is the waiting room and ticket office, then the Ladies waiting room and convenience, the parcel offices and then finally, the Gents toilet. The station building by this date is looking a little dilapidated. I recall the days when the building was in immaculate condition and the garden was kept neat and tidy. I believe they won prizes for the best kept garden on the Barry line. The photograph is held within the Penarth Dock Collection. [001] [20230514]

1969 - Dinas Powis Station - The gas lamp situated on the down line next to the steps to the subway. I usually waited until the train had left the station and the station staff had returned inside before dashing across the railway line ; always checking first that there were no trains approaching from the Barry direction!

I recall the station staff telling me that the gas supply for the station was from a local natural gas supply and that it was not on the town gas service, but I have never been able to establish if this was true. The photograph is held within the Penarth Dock Collection. [001] [20230514]

1969 - Dinas Powis Station - The 'waiting room' on the down line to Cadoxton, Barry Docks, Barry and Barry Island was a luxurious affair!
1969 - Dinas Powis Station - The 'waiting room' on the down line to Cadoxton, Barry Docks, Barry and Barry Island was a luxurious affair! You could hide behind the return walls and wait for the station staff to disappear before emerging for your short-cut across the railway lines! Again, note the gas lights remain in place although they had been converted to electric lamps by the early 1960's as I recall. Distant is the quarry for the Gwalia Brickworks and by this date a large housing estate built by the father of my classmate at Dinas Powis Primary School which had been built by the Northway family. The photograph is held within the Penarth Dock Collection. [001] [20230514]
