Pier Head, Cardiff.

Pier Head, Cardiff.

Pier Head, Cardiff - An Ernest T. Bush postcard view taken c.1910. A White Funnel Fleet, single funnel, paddle steamer awaits its passengers, and perhaps the tide, at the Pier Head. The enlargement has been colourised. The postmark is October 1921 and the postcard is addressed to Mrs. Passmore across the water in Barnstaple, Devon and is from Will. Another heritage postcard held within the Penarth Dock Collection. [001]

Entrance to Bute Docks, Cardiff.
Entrance to Bute Docks, Cardiff - In the days before the mobile phone it was common to send a letter or postcard to remind someone back at home to do something which you had forgotten to do as the writing on the rear of this postcard illustrates very well. Difficult on land but almost impossible when at sea! It is addressed to Miss C. Chaudler at the Council School in St. Neots. 'E' states 'If I left L's pocket lesson book on the organ will you please send it to her in your letter. Hope to be with you to-morrow if fine but don't expect us if it is at all wet. Love to both. E . . .' Another heritage postcard held within the Penarth Dock Collection. [001]

Cardiff, The Docks.
Cardiff, The Docks.
Cardiff, The Docks - A Photochrome postcard undated held within the Penarth Dock Collection. The lower image has been colourised. I believe this to be taken from the entrance lock to the Queen Alexandra Dock since the graving dock may be seen on the left. The date is c.1910 but will accept corrections. [001]

Cardiff Docks.

Cardiff Docks - A postcard posted during July 1905 to an address in the Armley area of Leeds. It is from Nellie to a Miss L. Smith. She states that she 'followed John all the way and saw what he did.' She then asks 'Do you think I shall get the Dirty Kick out when I come back?' Intriguing indeed! The postcard was published by M. Bourlay and Co. Ltd., Bute Street and George Street, Cardiff. Yet another heritage postcard held within the Penarth Dock Collection. [001]
