A late 1960's view from just below Maughan Street, Penarth looking across Paget Road.

A late 1960's view from just below Maughan Street, Penarth looking across Paget Road and the allotments to the Penarth Dock and Basin below (a colourised version). On the skyline is the East Moors Iron & Steelworks which was demolished in November 1979. The car parked in Paget Road is a Ford Corsair which was in production between the years 1963 to 1970. This one looks like it could do with some TLC! The building at 'A' is the entrance to the River Ely Subway which was demolished c.1969 and the cast iron subway segments close to ground level were also removed. The Quonson hut at 'B' is a relic of the use of Penarth Dock as an American base in the run-up to D-Day during WWII. So, I would date this photograph prior to 1969 but after 1965. Another heritage photograph of our industrial past held within the Penarth Dock Collection. [000] [001]

A section of the OS map of Penarth which illustrates the location of the photographer and his field of view. The map was revised in 1947 and published 1949, hence, is a little out of date but provides us with more information about the vista. [010] [398]
