Rough Sea - Whitmore Bay - Barry Island - Another stormy day but not quite windy enough to blow those 'Nora Batty' style hats off the ladies and out to sea! I always found it better on that sort of day to stay inside the amusement arcades playing the penny machines accompanied by a candy floss or two! Another postcard with colourised enlargement from the Penarth Dock Collection. [001]

Children's Pool and Beach, Barry Island.
Children's Pool and Beach, Barry Island - The tidal paddling pool at Friars Point, Whitmore Bay, Barry Island, was a favourite of mine whenever we visited the beach as a child in the 1950's. It was built c.1905, which is probably around the time of the upper photograph, whereas, the lower image shows the pool and its popularity during the 1950's. It fell into disuse in the 1970's and poor quality seawater was apparently also to blame for its demise. [000] [002]
