Volume Eight - Pre-Victorian to the present day - more aspects - Shipwright's Working Rules and Price List - 1937 - 1959
I assume that 'Furzolene' it is a petroleum based substance - does anyone know please? The following rules are interesting in that they are specific to the responsibility for actions such as supply of tools etc. These rules were intended to limit the scope for disputes arising and work being curtailed by industrial actions. Industrial relations were often problematic throughout the UK with a 'them and us' attitude from both management and workforce being the prevalent attitude which survived into the 1960's and beyond and sparked the end of much of the British car industry, steel, textiles, coal, ship building, and general engineering. |
