1896 - Mission to Bristol Channel Seamen. - 'A new mission steamer to be called the Eirene, has been ordered for the use of the Missions to Seamen chaplain amongst the shipping and fishing fleets in the outer roadsteads of the Bristol Channel. She is being built by the Penarth Shipbuilding Company at a cost of £2,500. the whole of this sum has been subscribed with the exception of about £400, which it is hoped may be contributed before the vessel is launched, next summer.' - Evening Express [135] [361] 21st November 1896.
