Volume Nine - Pre-Victorian to the present day - even more aspects - The Custom House and Dock Offices . . .

• Samuel Dobson and the Design of the Customs House, etc. - There are many (including Cadw and local historians) who make statements to the effect that the Customs House 'was', or 'probably was', designed by Samuel Dobson, engineer to the Penarth Dock, Harbour and Railway Company. Samuel Dobson was a talented mining engineer prior to commencing work at the Penarth Dock Company but to my best knowledge had received no formal classical architectural training so its extremely unlikely that he could have been the originating architect for the Customs House or the Mercantile Marine Dock Offices. See also the Samuel Dobson page for futher information.
