Volume Nine - Pre-Victorian to the present day - even more aspects - The Introduction of 20 ton Coal Wagons - 1923   . . .

The South Wales Coal Annual of 1929 [469] also included the following advertisement for the Principality Wagon Company Ltd., who claim to be sole agents for the 20-ton all steel mineral wagons but built by Fairfield's at Chepstow. Another report suggests that they were built at the Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Works Company - now I'm confused! The Principality Wagon works, however, is just across the river from the Penarth Dock and Ely Tidal Harbour which could be easily accessed by the subway under the river Ely or from Grangetown!

The engineering works of the Principality Wagon Company Limited at Ferry Road, Cardiff in the mid-1920's.
