Penarth Dock, South Wales - 150 years - the heritage and legacy
Penarth Dock, South Wales - the heritage & legacy . . .

about . . .

Volume Eight - Pre-Victorian to the present day - more aspects - Moments captured in time

The Nautical School in Penarth - The TVR's Penarth Hotel, became the National Childrens Home being a Nautical School, a home for delinquent boys and then the Headlands School in its lifetime thus far.

The Customs House - An important relic of the original infrastructure of the dock dating from 1864. Customs dues were paid and the Dock Company shared these offices. Adjacent is the Maritime Marine Office which was only much later used to sign crews and discharge them. In the ballast office you could buy some stone to build your mansion in Penarth!

Penarth Pier - An aspect through the eyes of the P. & A. Campbell Company who used the pier regularly for passenger embarkation since shortly after it opened in time for the 1895 season.

Penarth Dock Engine Shed - I thought we should revert back to the dock theme of the website for a few shots of local railway infrastructure back in the days of steam.
