Penarth Dock, South Wales - 150 years - the heritage and legacy
Penarth Dock, South Wales - the heritage & legacy . . .

about . . .

Volume Eight - Pre-Victorian to the present day - more aspects - Moments captured in time

The Beach and the Lookout Towers - I recall as a young lad in the mid 1950's wondering where the steps went which emerged from the cliffs when you looked up the beach towards the Penarth headland. I wanted to explore but couldn't because the lower section was missing.

Penarth Head Fort and Coastal Battery - Did you know that there were two 6" Quick Firing guns mounted on the Penarth Head in 1906 which were a part of a comprehensive system of armaments solely for the protection of the Penarth and Cardiff Docks. They were not removed until the 1920's?

View from Parade, Penarth - The 'Parade' is not a description I can find reference too - your assistance appreciated here. These are postcard images dating from the Edwardian era.

A sepia tinted view of Penarth Beach - The pier from the gardens sometime in the interwar years - probably from the early 1930's.
