Volume Eight - Pre-Victorian to the present day - more aspects - Moments captured in time

Two views of the Pier - 'Baths and Esplanade Hotel from the Pier' and 'Penarth and Pier from the Baths, Penarth'. The Victorian piers were so unique and typical of the British tradition of taking the air; a treat that continues to this day.

Esplanade and Gardens - The esplanade, pier and gardens were the mainstay of the postcard industry from the 1880's into the 1960's. Then the package holiday changed the outlook for resorts such as Penarth. Sun, sea and sex won out!

The Taff Vale Railway Poster for Penarth - The TVR company promoted the resort of Penarth as this poster shows. Also another of those fine photochromatic images of the Esplanade for your delectation.

Windsor Gardens, Penarth - Designed for Lord Robert Windsor by Robert Forrest and Henry Snell it was opened in 1880 and extended in 1885 covering 4.5 acres.
